High School Seminars

Now in its fourth decade, the Washington Workshops Foundation offers one-week experiential leadership programs on government and politics. Dedicated to getting young people involved in the political and legislative process, we invite students to investigate the United States Congress, the Supreme Court, Embassies, and the Executive agencies by meeting with Members of Congress, government officials, diplomats, lobbyists, and professors. Students will also visit the historical and memorial highlights of our nation's capital.

Each seminar maintains a unique educational focus through a student run model congress. This simulation challenges students to engage one another on current issues of the new century. Students will form a committee, write a bill, and argue it in a committee room on Capitol Hill.

The U.S. Congressional Seminar

Now in its 40th year, The Congressional Seminar provides a unique opportunity to learn firsthand about current issues from the highest government officials. Stressing democracy in action, the program encourages students to challenge these men and women on the issues and to provide their own insights in helping to solve the complex issues that confront our society in the 21st Century. The highlight of the week is the Model Congress simulation where each student assumes the role of an elected official.
