A SEMINAR FOR THE PEACEFUL RESOLUTION OF INTERNATIONAL CONFLICT
The 21st Century is an exciting and challenging time where nations and societies continually become interlinked through commerce, economic development, diplomatic relations and cultural exchange. Despite this interconnectivity, all nations cherish unique histories, economic status, cultural and religious values and stages of development that sometimes clash with the will and interests of other nations and/or communities within their own borders.
GOALS OF THE PROGRAM – To Learn and Empower: To inform students about the important and emerging field of conflict resolution and empower them to be more informed and capable global citizens.
TO HAVE FUN: While the ICR seminar is an educational program the schedule has been designed to also be fun and entertaining with the opportunity to meet new friends from across the United States and the international community.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND? Motivated students interested in international relations, foreign policy, conflict resolution, strategies for peacemaking, comparative government, and
related topics.
WHAT WILL I LEARN? Students will learn about the variety and scope of conflict resolution and the techniques that are
being employed today from the grassroots to the upper levels of policy making to address international conflicts.
In small groups, students will practice active listening, experience others' perspectives through role playing and case study exercises and experience the process of forming an intervention and action plan for conflict resolution. Additionally, students will learn about the broad scope of the conflict resolution field, the type of organizations involved in the field and how individuals can and do make a difference
every day.
The ICR seminar is offered to motivated students who seek new challenges and are passionate about creating a more peaceful world through thoughtful, creative and balanced solutions.
The ICR seminar is a seven-day, six-night program that will address a variety of topics pertaining to the causes and complexity of international conflict. Attendees will evaluate in depth case study exercises to gain a greater understanding and appreciation of the historical context and evolving relationships between states and how different actors at various levels engage in conflict analysis, intervention, diplomacy, and creating foreign policy to resolve conflict. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage in interesting lectures, group forums and small working groups to gain a deeper understanding of their assigned topic. Attendees will evaluate challenging topics such as addressing issues of infrastructure development, access to education, basic social services, human rights issues, poverty eradication and causes of war. The activities will challenge and mos. importantly empower the next generation of leaders with tools to build on their academic and future career pursuits.

DESIGNING AN INTERVENTION
One of the students' tasks will be to design an intervention strategy to a real international conflict. It will be an opportunity to learn through case study and role play the difficult task of tackling major global conflicts and the process of planning an intervention. Each evening, students will divide into small groups to discuss and design their intervention. On the final evening the groups will present their intervention strategy with their groups and have a dialogue on the whole process.

ACCOMMODATIONS
Students and chaperones are housed at safe, clean, and comfortable hotels or conference centers within the Washington, DC and New York metropolitan area. Housing for each seminar will be based on availability, school preference, value and program budget. Our seminar housing sites include major hotels in the Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt, ICG and Kimpton family of hotels. We also offer a college campus experience by partnering with the National 4H Youth Conference Center, Kellogg Conference Center and major colleges and universities in Washington, DC and New York.
TRANSPORTATION
The Washington Workshops only uses fully licensed and insured motor coach operators. We only partner with
companies that have demonstrated a high standard of safety, professionalism, and cleanliness. Public transportation such as city busses and the subway are typically not utilized unless a group chooses to for an enhanced experience of the Washington, D.C. transit system.
TUITION
Seminar Tuition will be published on the final travel information sheet given to you by your school. Some school's tuition may be different depending on duration of the selected program and/or activities included during your school's visit to Washington, DC. Please contact your coordinating teacher or parent organizing your seminar for more information. We also develop customized seminars and customized doesn’t always mean more expensive!
MEALS
Participants enjoy a healthy breakfast each morning and wholesome dinner each evening of the program. Lunches or a lunch stipend can also be included in the program and factored into the final tuition; however, this is not required. Please contact us for more information, or to learn about lunch stipend options.
WASHINGTON WORKSHOPS STAFF
Our staff consists of management personnel in the office and in the field. Teachers and students will interact primarily with an assigned program administrator. We take pride in maintaining well educated, experienced, professional program administrators in the field. Each program administrator must complete a full screening,
intensive training and a full criminal background check. Our program administrators are committed to providing a safe and enjoyable experience for all seminar participants. Many of our staff are typically going on to postgraduate studies and/or careers in education, public policy, international affairs, tourism or public service.
